The role of community

Obesity isn’t just an individual concern; it poses a public health challenge that affects entire communities nationwide. Most recent data from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention rank Louisiana the 2nd highest state in adult obesity and 3rd highest in childhood obesity. This status is heavily influenced by the structure of communities and accessibility of resources. Research indicates that rural communities, which make up around 80% of Louisiana, have higher rates of childhood overweight and obesity than urban areas. In these regions, children may face limited access to health and wellness resources, such as local agriculture, markets, and public parks.

It is imperative for community leaders to explore innovative approaches in delivering such services to residents, as studies demonstrate their effectiveness in enhancing the health of both current and future generations. Greaux Healthy stands alongside all Louisiana communities in their efforts through community action projects, health education, and evidence-based obesity prevention resources.
